AdventHealth – Shawnee Mission Tower 2, a commercial healthcare building, has a rich history that dates back to the early 1950s. The original structure was constructed during a time of significant growth and development in the healthcare industry. However, as the years passed, the building began to show its age and needed a redesign to meet the increasing demand for advanced medical services in the Shawnee Mission area.

Recognizing the need for change, we assisted the hospital on a major renovations and updates. Collaborating seamlessly with Henderson Engineers and Engineer Bob D Campbell, we orchestrated major renovations and updates. The skilled hands of McCarthy Builders brought our vision to life, constructing a space that now stands as a beacon of progress.  The project was completed in November 2023, marking a significant milestone in our ongoing relationship with AdventHealth.

The renovation began in the fall of 2021 and unfolded in multiple meticulously planned phases, each aligned with updated codes and fire ratings. Among the most remarkable aspects of this transformation was the seamless alteration of the exterior precast, allowing for increased infusion of natural light. This enhancement not only elevates the building’s aesthetics but also fosters a more inviting environment for patients, ultimately contributing to improved outcomes.

The design of the renovated building was heavily influenced by utilizing current standards and operational effectiveness. The goal was to create space that not only meets the highest standards of healthcare but also facilitates efficient, clinical operations. The result is a state-of-the-art healthcare facility that fundamentally transforms patient, staff and visitor experience.

What truly fills us with pride is the gratification and positive acclaim expressed by both staff and patients regarding the new space. The successful completion of the project is a testament to what can be achieved when the entire Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) team shares common goals and use Communication, Collaboration, Cooperation and Coordination to work towards project success.

Despite the challenges encountered, the project was a resounding success and afforded us the opportunity to transform old into the new, fundamentally changing the patient experience, demonstrating what is achieved from a relationship such as ours with AdventHealth and McCarthy Builders.

Today, AdventHealth – Shawnee Mission Tower 2 stands as a dedication of our commitment to healthcare excellence and ability to adapt and innovate, even when working with structures from a different era. The renovated building, with its blend of historical charm and modern amenities, is a shining example of how thoughtful design and collaboration can transform a space, enhancing both its functionality and the experiences of those who use it.
