h|d Architecture Wins 2025 VISTA Award for Renovation

Tower 2, originally constructed in 1972, was the oldest building on the AdventHealth Shawnee Mission campus. To meet modern healthcare standards, we undertook a comprehensive renovation in partnership with AdventHealth, McCarthy Building Companies, Benson Method, Bob D. Campbell & Company, and Henderson Engineers. The project involved replacing and enlarging 220 exterior windows, resealing and coating the building envelope, and modernizing 144 patient rooms.
A significant achievement of this project was completing the renovation in a phased approach, allowing AdventHealth to maintain patient occupancy throughout the construction process. This not only minimized disruptions but also ensured that patients continued to receive quality care without interruption. By standardizing nursing units and upgrading critical infrastructure, we improved staff efficiency and enhanced the overall healing environment.
The 2025 VISTA Award for Renovation acknowledges outstanding innovation and collaboration in healthcare design and construction. This award is a testament to the power of teamwork and effective communication in creating exceptional healthcare environments.
